Famous Cities of the World: Oslo

Oslo is situated in the eastern part of the Norway, at the head of the Oslo fjord, in a natural basin on the lower slopes of wooded hills. The city has retained its old world charm and combined it with a modern European attitude. Oslo is the biggest city in Norway, and has been the country's capital since 1814. The city is richly decorated with sculptures, but the greatest impression is still provided by the Vigeland Park where the sculptural results of Gustav Vigeland’s extensive work are presented. Oslo is the capital and largest city in Norway. The city centre of Oslo is situated at the end of the Oslofjord from where the city sprawls out both to the north and to the south on both sides of the fjord.

Oslo is an eclectic mix of old medieval buildings, churches and modern architecture, sitting among the green trees and extending forests that form the natural balance of nature and civilization. Around the city there are numerous museums, art galleries and places of interest, especially the Edvard Munch Museum and the Norwegian Folk Museum on the sought after Bygdøy Peninsula. Oslo is home to a large international community and offers a rich diversity of music, cuisine, design and art. Justly famous for its clean air, stable climate and spectacular scenery, the region is a haven for all outdoor pursuits, including a wide range of sports.

Oslo is a highly unresolved urban form, technically advanced, but extremely loose in its configuration. With a density of about 1,140 inhabitants per square kilometer, it is more than twenty times less dense than Manhattan (at 24,200 / square kilometer) and more than ten times less dense than Tokyo (at 12,800 / square kilometer). Oslo is a home to many universities. This is another reason of many people visiting Oslo every year. Oslo is the most beautiful city I’ve ever seen. Be sure to go to Burgen: the train trip is amazing (book a seat in advance), and go to the market for free samples galore.

Oslo is the capital city of Norway and is a city that is rich in history and culture; it is even the home to the Nobel Peace Center. If you are an outdoor fanatic, than Oslo has everything you could ever want, from beaches during the summer to mountains filled with cross country ski and downhill ski trails during the winter. Oslo is the capital of Norway and by far the largest city with 500 000 inhabitants. This is where the Royal family lives and the Norwegian Parliament is located there. Oslo is also one of Europe's most heavily forested cities, and its citizens relish this standing. Oslovians love nature in both summer and winter.

Oslo is one of the oldest cities in Scandinavia and the only Scandinavian capital with an urban settlement dating back to the Viking Ages. Many historical remnants and ruins from ancient Oslo can be found in the Memorial Park. Oslo is being serviced by three airports: Oslo Airport Gardermoen, which is the major Norwegian airport, and is located 37 km to the north east of Oslo. Torp Airport which is used by Ryanair is located 84 km to the south of Oslo.
